It is Very Risky in Journalism
For some time I was thinking here why I am writing this? My mind was getting very restless. That’s why sat down to write the story of truth. I am not the only one who has started writing something or the other now. If you have chosen the profession of journalism, you cannot stop writing. Earlier the words were written with a pen. Now is the time of technology, so fingers move on the keyboard of the computer. If you do not want to write words openly, then you can express your distress in gestures. When everyone gets success in getting their point across or exposing a crime. This success in journalism gives peace to the mind. In today’s era, many types of sections have been formed in journalism. Social media has contributed a lot in this. A lot has changed in the field of journalism. Today, the trend of earning money by openly writing for a ruling party has increased. It means that a bunch of journalists have become the shield of the corrupt system in the country. In whose eyes whatever the ruling party is doing is right. But fair journalism does not teach us so. This is proving to be a thorny sheet for the writers and journalists who expose the corrupt system and the activities of the ruling party. The situation has become such that the journalist can neither sleep nor sit properly on this barbed sheet. His slightest movements are giving wounds. These wounds also happen on those parts of the body, it cannot be shown to anyone. The thing to think about is that he should remove the barbed sheet only. But whenever he tries to remove it, his hands get injured. Then he will not be able to write.
One thing is coming to mind while writing here. I feel like sharing some of these moments with you. Drug peddlers have been selling synthetic drugs in Punjab for a few years. During the year 2013-2014, a huge drug racket worth thousands of crores was exposed in Punjab. This case shook the politics of Punjab state. At that time there was a coalition government of Akali Dal and BJP in Punjab. Allegations and counter-allegations of the involvement of many ruling and opposition politicians in the drug racket echoed on the streets as well. All this led to arrests and seizures during the investigation. Heroin worth more than Rs 1.30 billion was recovered at that time. Investigation revealed that this is an international synthetic drugs racket of billions, in which party drug ice is prepared from chemicals like pseudoephedrine and amphetamine and supplied in the country and abroad. During interrogation, it was revealed that its mastermind is former DSP Jagdish Bhola. Meanwhile, the Income Tax Department raided the cold store of an accused involved in the drug racket and recovered a diary containing details of payments made to several politicians and police officers. Due to this, the ED took possession of that diary. This case of drug racket in Punjab was so big that apart from the police administration, four central agencies were also involved in its investigation. The issue of drugs remained dominant even during the Lok Sabha elections. Sources play an important role in unearthing such cases.
A person dedicates himself as a journalist, writer or social worker. Such journalists, writers and social workers continue to work against criminal activities and corrupt systems while fulfilling their duty towards the society. Many journalists become sources and provide information about mafia, people active in criminal activities and corrupt officials to intelligence departments. It is also called investigative journalist or detective journalist. It remains very risky. If the people active in criminal activities get suspected, threats are also made to harm them and their families. Sometimes you are forced to hide. Mafia attacks also have to be faced. You have to protect yourself and your family from harm. In many cases the situation worsens. Despite all this writing cannot be stopped. When news or articles are written in journalism, journalists get information from their sources. He can never tell about his sources. No matter how much he has to suffer for this, the administration sometimes forces him to know this. But it should be kept secret, because there is a risk of loss of life in it. Similarly, the intelligence departments of the country and the state take information from the journalists about the people active in criminal activities. Just as some people living in the middle of the society play the role of a source of information in journalism, in the same way, journalists are also sources for the intelligence department and police high officials. Many times, in order to get information against the mafia and criminals, the journalist has to do secret work like espionage. This synergy is useful in cracking down on criminal activities.
