Punjab Youth Dying of Drug Overdose
In India’s border state of Punjab, the drug trade has been spreading its feet for a long time. The drug mafia has increased its network so much, due to which drugs like heroin, smack, chita have reached the schools of cities and villages. Many boys and girls of school and college have become addicted to drugs. Now the situation has become such that drug dealers are running their business in the streets of small villages and cities. Many young boys and girls have lost their lives due to taking drug overdose. In the coming days, such news of some city or village is read in the newspapers. In Punjab, the drug mafia has engaged the common people in their illegal business. In this, men and women from a young age to an older age are associated with the greed of money. There is no doubt on the sight of such intoxicants. Recently, people of the country and abroad saw the film ‘Udta Punjab’ made on these conditions of Punjab. In order to get rid of the habit of intoxicating young boys and girls and other people, the former government opened many drug de-addiction centers in the state. Recently, Punjab Police launched a campaign against drug mafia and caught many drug dealers and drug dealers. The present government is also claiming that action is being taken against drugs. Raids are being conducted from place to place by the police. But in spite of all this the situation is not improving.
Now every day young people are dying due to drugs. Recently, 26-year-old Sikanderjit Singh of village Marhana died of intoxication. Intoxicant vaccine was also found near the dead body. It has been learned from the village that during about six years, more than two dozen youths of Marhana village have died due to drugs. Similarly, a day earlier in Khadoor Sahib, the only son of Granthi had died due to intoxication. At the same time, two young brothers of another family died due to intoxication in Amritsar. After the death of both the brothers, the whole family is shattered. In Punjab, some such videos keep going viral on social media. In these, a boy or a girl is seen taking a dose of intoxicant by injecting. There are many videos in social media in which young girls can be seen drunk. A young person dies from an overdose of drugs on the road, in the field or in the car. I am scared to see such news in the newspapers every day. Tired of the increasing drug habit among the young boys and girls of the village, the common people have started raising them against the drug mafia. There is a need to take strict action at the earliest to stop the drug trade spreading in Punjab.
Punjab, which once made its mark in the countries of the whole world as sports, hardworking, well-mannered Punjabis, has now come under the grip of drug mafia. Intellectuals also consider Punjabi singers to some extent behind the increasing habit of youth in Punjab. For some time now, many Punjabi singers have filmed the use of weapons and drugs in their songs. The use of weapons and narcotics are linked to a hi-fi Punjabi life. All this is also very important to be taken seriously. There are a lot of Punjabi songs like this on social media. The impact of songs on youth cannot be ignored.
Drugs are sold anywhere in the streets and villages of Punjab, it is known to all the families living in the surrounding area. Many urban localities and villages have become infamous due to illegal drug trade. It has become difficult for common families to live in such areas. When someone raises his voice against a drug dealer, he is beaten up. Keeping in view the safety of the family, no common man dares to raise his voice against the drug dealers. Today every parent is worried about their children. He used to be afraid here that the dear son or dear daughter should not get into the habit of drugs. When the son or daughter goes out of the house, they are worried till they do not come back. By the way, during the election season, the leaders of every political party keep on making claims of ending drug addiction from Punjab in rallies. As soon as the government comes, the first task of the party will be to put people associated with drug mafia in jails. In the rallies held in every city – every locality – every village, leaders make big speeches making such claims. Many such speeches are present in social media. The election was won, a majority government was formed. Just after that, no leader even wants to talk about the old claims of ending drug addiction. Just as intoxicants were sold in the state earlier, similarly intoxicants continue to be sold in the present day. Drug mafia is increasing its business day by day. New methods are adopted for all this.
