Road Accidents are More Dangerous Than Terrorism
1.5 Lakh People Die Every Year
Here in today’s modern era, the roads of the cities of India are being built with new technology. New hi-tech highway bridges are being built. New technology vehicles have come to the people of the country. There are safety bags in the vehicles running on the road. Many types of sensors are also coming in new vehicles. Despite all this, road accidents are not taking the name of reduction in India. As the day starts, one gets to read the news of road accidents. Many road accidents are so serious in which all the members of the same family are killed. In the accident, the vehicles are damaged so much that people find it difficult to get out. If we look at the road accidents in the country from 2000 to 2022, then statistics show that on an average 1.5 lakh people die in road accidents every year. On the other hand, there were about 4,147 terrorist attacks in India from 2000 to 2022. About 21 thousand people died in these attacks. Now if we compare the terrorist attacks and road accidents, then the road accidents in the country are also no less dangerous. There is a need to make strict laws by the Central Government and the State Governments to prevent road accidents in the country. At the same time, the public has to be aware. Every person driving on the road has to give importance to himself and the life of the other person on the road.
There are many reasons behind road accidents that happen every minute and every hour in India. Among these, clumsy drivers are also the main reason for road accidents. Similarly, corrupt officers in the transport departments of different states are also a big reason for the country. Unless the transport and other related departments are not made accountable, it is difficult to reduce the road accidents in our country. State traffic police should also take action against clumsy drivers and other people who do not follow the rules.
In a 2017 survey in the city of Delhi, 26 percent people believed that without paying a bribe, a driving license cannot be made in the country. 18 percent of those who make driving licenses by paying bribes are those whose purpose is to get the license and do the job of a driver. These people also get driving license from the department without taking training of driving and then drive on the roads without caring about the rules. Surveys show that every hour 17 people in the country lose their lives in road accidents. More people get injured than this. Over speeding is also the cause of such dreadful road accidents in the country. Every year 60 percent of road accidents are caused by over speeding only. There is no dearth of drunken drivers in the country. A study has found that 22 out of every 100 drivers of commercial vehicles drive on the roads under the influence of alcohol. Or some drivers use some other intoxicant. Weak government systems are behind all this. The situation can improve only if the government system deals strictly with those who ignore the rules on the roads in the country. For this the government system must be free from corruption. Those flouting the rules while driving are released by the traffic police personnel by taking bribe. Drivers of commercial vehicles running overloading keep walking comfortably on the road by bribing the police personnel deployed to control the traffic at every city square. Commercial vehicles are loaded with iron bars several feet long. Due to bribery, these commercial vehicles with several feet long iron bars keep running from city to city roads without any hindrance. These iron bars hanging outside the vehicles cause major road accidents. If the rules are seen, then such commercial vehicles cannot even hit the road with such long iron bars. But corrupt government officials allow such vehicles to ply on the road by taking bribe. These commercial vehicles become Yamraj and kill the people walking on the road.
Every state of India should make the strictest law regarding driving on the roads so that such road accidents can be stopped. At the same time, the area where road accidents take place should be investigated and the responsibility of the concerned government official should be fixed. If any officer is found deficient in his work, then action should be taken against him. Terrorists shoot and kill common people, but clumsy drivers are killing people sitting in the driver’s seat of the car on the road. Be it big cities or small cities, clumsy drivers will be found running on the roads everywhere. Today the situation is such that even the common urban people are afraid to go on the road.
