Drug Traffickers in Punjab
Many years ago, a conspiracy was hatched to make the young generation of Punjab addicted to drugs. Year after year, young boys and girls kept coming under the influence of drugs. Due to the demand of drugs, Punjab became the center of business for the smugglers. Whether in the city or the village, drugs started selling everywhere. The drug mafia has joined hands with the corrupt people of the political and administration to expand their business. After that the situation in Punjab changed. Drug peddlers made their way to the streets of cities and villages. It is not that the governments did not try to stop drugs. The previous state government, political leaders made promises to the people of Punjab many times to end drug addiction. The same administrative officers also tried according to their own. The surprising thing is that everyone tried hard to end the drug business from Punjab, but the drugs kept on being sold. A few months ago Shashikant, former ADG (Intelligence) of Police, prepared a ‘top secret’ document. In which the names of more than 80 such officers of small and medium level are included, on whom suspicion of having links with drug mafias across the border has been issued. Two years back, Shashi Kant has submitted sensational documents in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the drug racket which has spread widely in Punjab. The court is hearing the matter, however, the progress of the matter is very slow. It has been learned that this can lead to many sensational revelations. A nexus of drug mafia, politicians and officers may come before the world.
In Punjab, drug peddlers have made hideouts in the areas around schools and colleges as well as in the streets and localities. To sell drugs, children and women were added for supply. For many years, drug smugglers were making the people of Punjab addicted to drugs under a campaign. Drug peddlers also started working in new ways to increase their business. Thousands of families in Punjab have lost their near and dear ones due to drug addiction. A large number of youth died due to drug overdose. Drug trade has become a serious problem. From the news published in the media recently, it is known that some villagers have started protesting to end the drug menace. The Chief Minister of Punjab has issued strict orders to end the problem of drugs which has become rampant. Chief Minister Bhangwat Mann held a high level meeting with top officials. In this meeting, the officials were directed to confiscate the property of those involved in drug trafficking. He said that the officer in whose jurisdiction the drug is sold would be held responsible for the lapse. CM Mann said that the villagers should unanimously pass a resolution to make their villages drug free. The panchayats of drug-free villages will be given grants by the government. If the panchayat makes its village drug free, it will be honored in Chandigarh. The security of these villages will also be ensured in every way.
In the year 2014, the police told the High Court that from June 19 to July 30, two lakh old drug addicts were taken to de-addiction centers. The help of the health department is also being taken to get them treated there. In the year 2014, 10830 cases of NDPS were registered. In these cases, 12695 persons were arrested. Four quintals of heroin was caught in big smuggling. In the year 2013, three lakh 23 thousand 56 capsules and three crore six lakh 52 thousand 590 tablets were seized. According to the information received from the media, Punjab Police DIG Balkar Singh Sidhu had said in an affidavit filed in the High Court that the police is looking for 11 fugitives in foreign countries related to drug smuggling. Their arrest warrants have been obtained. CBI itself has been notified as NCB to coordinate with Interpol.
But despite this the drug trade could not stop. As the number of drug users was increasing, new drug dealers were also being born. The situation in Punjab had come to such an extent that every parent wanted to send their young boy or girl abroad. A large number of youth have left Punjab in the last few years. Four years ago in Punjab, a large number of demonstrations were held against drug peddlers in many villages. Awareness campaigns were conducted through street plays to get the youth out of the mire of drugs. A period of anti-drug poems was also started. Apart from Amritsar, Kotkapura, Faridkot, Dinanagar, Malot, Barnala in Punjab, rallies were held against drugs in many villages. Drug abuse had become a serious issue in the 2017 assembly elections. The people of Punjab expressed their anger and gave victory to the Congress party with a majority. Still the drug trade continued in the villages of Punjab. Now the smugglers had engaged the drug users in the work of supplying and selling it in small areas. Youths were dying due to continuous intoxication in the village. There are many videos on social media, in which boys and girls are seen consuming drugs. Five years later, even in the 2022 elections, the issue of drugs remained in headlines. The people of Punjab have removed the Akali Dal and the Congress party from power this time. The Aam Aadmi Party got a big victory. Now a hope has awakened in the hearts of the people of Punjab, there has been a big change in the politics of the state. Now a hope has awakened in the hearts of the people of Punjab, there has been a big change in the politics of the state. The people of Punjab are seeing this change in association with the end of drugs.
